Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are expressive! But they don't always have ways or a place to share their experiences. I have found that they are incredibly creative and, when given a protected space, flourish.
We serve a diverse population of students, including many students of color and students at or below the poverty line.
Not all of them have access to a protected space where they can work collaboratively and express themselves in an inclusive environment that fosters creativity and self-expression. This could become that place where they can overcome those barriers and thrive.
This area would provide a meeting place and work space for students working on collaborative Project-Based Learning across multiple subjects.
My Project
My ultimate goal is to foster a student community that collaborates across classes, grades, subjects, and backgrounds where every voice is heard and can be expressed through myriad forms. The Vallejo Creators Corner is that ideal space realized.
Your donation to this project will provide students with a safe, protected, and creative space where they can collaborate across interdisciplinary projects in Engineering, Applied Sciences, English, Social Sciences, Mathematics, and the Arts.
These materials will provide storage space for books, art supplies, math and engineering equipment, and project cubbies. The drafting desk and easel will be utilized for those projects. The bean bags will create a seating area that will be used for reading, research, and a place to sit with other students and engage each other. The coloring books will be used to inspire creativity. Finally, the butcher paper and dispenser will be used to cover wall space for project planning.
