Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote "Music is the universal language of mankind." Help us continue to explore global cultures through world percussion!
My students come from various cultures and social backgrounds, but they all speak the language of music.
We are a Title I school that introduced the joy of hand drumming. As the student interest (and population) has grown, we need a few more instruments to continue our program. This wonderful character education tool has reinforced the concepts of cooperation, teamwork, self-confidence, and self-discipline.
My Project
The addition of these world percussion instruments will enable the students to increase the size of the performance groups. As our student population has grown, we need a few more instruments to make sure each child has the opportunity to participate in this unique opportunity. My students are learning to work together, support each other, and take personal pride in their musical accomplishments.
This project will support over 600 students in an area where children are not often exposed to world percussion.
We are a dual-immersion school with students from Mexico to Ghana to India to Puerto Rico. All people can find a common ground through music and these drums will provide the bridge to share our cultures and experiences.
