"The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance." - Alan Watts, philosopher, writer, and speaker.
My fifth grade class is one of two fifth grades in a K-5 public elementary school.
My students are intelligent individuals striving to learn and experience the most the world has to offer. With the challenges of fully implementing the Common Core State Standards, my students need additional resources to be able to adjust to the change and grasp new content.
Although the transition to the Common Core is difficult, my students are fast learners and are willing to take on the challenge. They strive to know more and need additional materials in order to become experts in the world around them.
My Project
Many of the current resources available in the classroom are now obsolete due to the shift in the standards. The Common Core State Standards calls for new tools, technology, and textbooks aligned to the new standards.
The new materials will allow my students to print their reports from a classroom printer, decipher math problems with hands-on materials, and decode content specific texts.
The addition of non-fiction and fiction books to our classroom library will help students build their reading skills and encourage them to want to read and learn more. They will be able to choose from a variety of books and become avid readers with the range of genres added to the classroom library.
Donations for this project will make a difference in all of my students lives by placing education in a positive light and inspiring my students to continue to grow.
Not only will it directly impact my students this year, but it will also make an impact on every student who steps into my classroom in the years to come.
