My students need a library stocked with multiple copies of high-interest books that will fire them up about reading! All of the books selected have motivated reluctant readers to read. They include Diary of a Wimpy Kid titles, "Dork Diaries," and "A Child Called It."

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of my seventh and eighth graders read below grade level. A major part of my strategy to help increase their reading levels is to spark the internal motivation to read. In order to do this, my students need access to page-turners that excite them and ignite their imaginations.
I am lucky to teach 120 curious, creative, and energetic middle schoolers.
Most of my students are English Language Learners and reside in a high-poverty area. Despite the odds that are stacked against them, my students come to school excited to learn each day.
My Project
Every single book I have put on my book list has inspired reluctant readers in my classes over the years. Many of my reluctant readers who became regular readers after getting hooked by one of these books have grown multiple grade levels in one year. I want my classroom library stocked with multiple copies of books with this kind of power, especially since our school doesn't have a school library.
The thought of sending my middle schoolers to high school reading below grade level scares me.
If they aren't reading at or above their grade level when they reach high school, they won't be successful and their chances of dropping out will increase. I want my students to dominate high school, succeed in college, and then go on to receive opportunities that will help them beat the odds stacked against them. These high-interest books have the power to turn my reluctant readers into readers.
