My students need soundproofing tiles, privacy shields and microphones to record their ideas about what they've read. They need a cozy couch and high-top stools for a quiet spot to read!
Most days when you walk down the hall, you will see a fifth-grader volunteering to help another teacher or walking a younger student to class. They are driven to make good choices from day to day. Our school promotes a feeling of pride, and the students take their role as a "bulldog" very seriously!
Our classroom promotes a love of reading, by providing student access to all different genres and levels of books.
Thanks to DonorsChoose, we have been able to build our classroom library. The students enjoy finding a cozy spot to read these fiction books, and they are always excited to share their personal favorites with their classmates. Our classroom is a buzz about books!
My Project
In our classroom library you will find students curled up with a good book by the light of a lamp with classical music playing softly in the background. For most of my students, reading is the most special time of day where they can escape everyday life inside a good story.
We would like to build onto our already amazing classroom library by adding a comfy seating.
Oftentimes when students are finished reading, they can't wait to talk to their friends about what they've read. We use Chromebooks to record our thoughts about reading and share with our classmates We will create mini recording studios for a better environment to record these videos without background noise. Our "Classroom Librarians" will use the barcode scanner to enter our books into a check out app so students can borrow books and bring them home to read as well.
Students can't wait for Fridays where we turn out the lights and pull down the shades for our famous "Flashlight Friday" where students read by flashlight! Reading is the most exciting part of the day in Room 21, and these materials will make it the ultimate cozy reading nook.
