This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am an elementary music teacher at a Title I, public school. I service students from pre-k through 5th grade. The students that I teach do not have the opportunity to take music lessons or play an instrument outside of their school day.

I would like my students to have the learning opportunity to be able to expand their musical knowledge, with the hopes that the students will continue practicing music throughout middle and high school.

I would love to give my students the opportunity to find their passions through the arts and become well-rounded individuals.

My Project

String instruments are hard to come by in an elementary setting. With a classroom set of ukuleles, the students will be able to expand upon their musical knowledge by being able to play and learn an instrument that they may not be familiar with or have access to.

For this project, the students would learn the basic fundamentals of the ukulele, as well as be able to play full songs on their own.

There are many fantastic ways that ukuleles can be used in an elementary music classroom setting.

With the end goal being that the students will be able to take this learned knowledge on the ukuleles and continue to play the same or other instruments throughout their lives.
