Our school is surrounded by some of the wealthiest neighborhoods in San Francisco. If you've ever visited the city you're told to avoid our neighborhood. And most would say for good reason.
We are a community school serving students and families living in the grittiest neighborhood in SF.
The students I work with are truly kind-hearted, curious, and grateful learners. Mostly from immigrant families, my students live thankfully and do their best regardless of what life throws at them. They are some of the most amazing people ever!
My Project
This project will be used to support a school-wide initiative to foster more reading throughout the school and for struggling readers. To put a creative spin on traditional reading logs, I have created a game board to help promote daily independent reading at home. As students move along the path of the game board, students will land on spaces where they will earn prizes. By funding this project, you are helping provide the incentive students need, and enjoy, to keep reading.
Prizes are fun, but the real goal of this project is to get kids reading!
Reading doesn't come naturally or easily to everyone. Sometimes you need a little motivation to get you reading. And that's what I hope this project can be—the encouragement to keep working, and keep trying, even when it's challenging.
