Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of our students, the children of immigrants, never get the chance to see much of the world beyond their immediate neighborhood, and we are looking to expand their horizons.
Their families are hardworking, constantly burning the candle at both ends, and the students reflect their work ethic.
They recognize the importance of education and work hard at their studies. Our 6th graders often serve as their parents' window to American society, both as translators and as scholars.
My Project
Middle school is a difficult time of life to navigate - so many people pulling in so many directions and so many influences, both good and bad. Our preteens need our guidance and foundational experiences more than ever during this time. Sometimes students need to be pulled out of their routine to find out who they truly are.
North Bay Adventure Camp gives our students the opportunity to discover nature and to discover themselves.
North Bay does the unique job of linking the principles of environmentalism to the principles of character development, leaving students with the understanding that their choices affect their future and their community, both in scientifc and social terms. Throughout the week, our students will get the chance to walk in the woods to discover the wonder of trees, dig for clams in the bay, learn how teamwork makes a kayak work, challenge themselves on a ropes course 50 feet above the forest floor, and get the chance to perform for an audience of hundreds. All the while, they are immersed in the scientific process as well as being coached by professional counselors who help them through the process of adolescence.
Many kids get the opportunity to go to sleepaway camp every summer. Most of our students don't. This could be their one chance, and we need your help to give it to them.
