I am a teacher of gifted and talented students for a district that includes four rural schools in Maine. I encourage my highly creative students to ask questions, stay curious, and investigate the impossible! If you are familiar with gifted students, you know that textbooks do little to address their unique needs, leading to boredom and apathy. Many of my students thrive with hands-on projects.

My Project
My students thrive with hands-on activities and these materials will help students learn about two different skills in hands-on activities. It has been said that you must be centered yourself to be able to "center" a pot on a pottery wheel.
This is the perfect time to introduce an activity that brings calmness into a student's life; forming and centering clay on a pottery wheel has a therapeutic effect on the sculptor as he/she creates.
These items will provide students the opportunity to not only learn a new skill each item is designed for but to also use them safely. Melting wax to seal envelopes will be a wonderful lesson in history as the students learn a new skill.
Students will have an authentic real-world experience as they learn about the unique qualities each medium has and as they experience the transformation in the process of creating.
