I work in an inner city school where a majority of my students live at or below poverty level. Their story is one of strength, courage, and the will to succeed beyond unimaginable obstacles that are put in front of them. My students inspire and motivate me daily with their will to overcome. They are a population of mixed ability level, various cultures, races, and languages who accept each other and daily work as a team. Their hopes and expectations are small, their dreams are exceptional.
I was planning on creating a donors choose for this year, but while I was in the process Covid 19 hit.
So I’m thinking of what my students next year will need.
Buying school supplies is often a fun and exciting time for many children, however for my students it is often a time of high stress. Many of my students are a part of families that often struggle financially. The every day basics than we often take for granted, are difficult for my students to come by.
My Project
The items in my project may seem simple. They are every day school supplies that most wouldn't think twice about. But to my students they would make all the difference. Most of my students come to school with a smile on their face and the shirts on their backs.
A majority of the extra school supplies are needed for enrichment, artistic expression, and aid in organizational skills.
These basic needs allow students to take their ideas and run with them. Everyday art materials are essential for student expression. They allow student to take the ideas we are discussing in class and expand hem. Most of my students to not have art supplies at home.
I am also asking for other items, such as markers, folders, a pencil sharpener, pencil bags,and colored paper. All items my students will use on a daily basis for organization and curriculum work.
Please help me provide my students with the basic essentials they need!
