I began my teaching journey at a middle school in Pleasant Grove where 90% of the students were considered to be economically disadvantaged. Students were underperforming and life was hitting them at an early age.
After a year teaching, the campus transitioned into a single gendered STEAM middle school campus in Dallas, TX.
This campus helped me to see the value in implementing technology within the classroom and how it can contribute to creating a culture of creativity.
Being an educator is something that involves more than having credentials, experience, and intelligence; it's a career path that allows you to show kindness and help students to feel cared for and loved.
As I transitioned to a new middle campus for the 2019-2020 school year, my new "home", ECMS, was hit by October's tornado and everything I had; I lost. Unfortunately, this included items that I used to teach my students who come from a low income, economically disadvantaged area. As I continue to transition to my new campus, I would love to continue with the trend of incorporating technology within the classroom so that more stations can be incorporated.
Students will be able to learn from an iPad instead of on paper which will prompt them to think more creatively and outside of the box. Education is evolving into a digital way of learning and it is something I would love to continue to expose to my students. This will also prepare them as they move on to higher education. Being exposed to learning through tech will also spark their imagination and creativity in ways that we did not think about growing up in the 90's. My aim is to ignite students to want to be more involved in the tech industry and this would just be the lightning rod for that aim.
