Ms. Hodge from Newark NJ is requesting professional development through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
I need funds so that I can travel to New York to have sessions with a speech coach to help with articulation issues which greatly impacts my work and my confidence.

My school is special because we focus not just on our scholars' academic successes and achievements, but we strive to create fun, run-to-school experiences that they will always remember. We often have school assemblies where we showcase various talents of both students and staff, or weekly classroom parties tied to our values or literacy initiatives. We invite parents to come in - not just to visit but to join in on our fun - whether running our popcorn stand during a celebration or doing a read-aloud to the class. We are a team and family and we strive to make everyone believe that.
These speech sessions will allow me to be a more clear and articulate presenter. All of my work hinges on being able to communicate clearly, to both students and staff and my pronunciation and enunciation issues have always impeded me from being able to communicate effectively and has created a space of doubt and unease when addresses large groups. I love the work that I do, so I always put my best foot forward, but I know I could be the type of dynamic speaker I see in so many of my colleagues.
The work I will do with the coach will help stop me from cluttering and dropping sounds.
Often times the thoughts I have in my head, or the way I envision them coming out, are completely different from what actually gets said and I want to be able to work with someone professionally to address these issues.
