I love the passion for learning despite the cultural diversity and financial challenges that the majority of my students are accustomed to. I have two classes, both ELA, and many of my students are learning English as a second language.
Our school is a STEM school.
Students focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
Unfortunately, many of our students only have the opportunity to learn through STEM while at school.
I have two exceptional classes during the day. Of my 44 students, 83% of them qualify for free & reduces price lunch. However, this does not impact their want to learn. My goal is to allow my students to learn about the world around them through books!
My Project
Most of my students come from low income families. Because of this, many of my students do not have the funds for books. Adding non-fiction books to my library will help my students learn about the world around them.
Students will also be doing literature circles.
We will be using several of the books for this.
Allowing my students to have access to these books will not only greatly influence their learning on the topic, but it will help them to learn to love reading. Many of the non-fiction books requested on this project are huge stories that happened around the world that many of us know about. I have requested these books in young readers editions, I know many of my students will enjoy them!
