This will be my 20th year as an educator, but it's my first time working with this age group in the classroom; I have worked with them outside of the classroom, as a church youth group leader. This age group is fun and rambunctious and full of life. I want to provide them with a classroom environment that engages them and taps into their learning potential. I'm excited for the new school year and look forward to building strong relationships.
My school has embarked on a Restorative Justice/PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) journey! Instead of kicking a student out of class for poor behavior, for example, the student will have the option of changing seats, to better focus on the task at hand.
Students will earn points for positive behavior, such as being kind and helping others.
On a weekly basis, students will use said points to select "flexible seating" for the day. They can also share points with a classmate who needs the points more than they do; Sharing their points guarantees students extra points the following week.
