The Sound of Learning- Weaving Rhythm into Our School Day!
Help me give my students the gift of RHYTHM & MUSIC so we can get coordinated and make rhythmic connections to our musical minds with a drum set and other percussion instruments!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a small but mighty self-contained classroom of neurodiverse students in grades 2-4. Our students learn, process, and share in many ways through the autism spectrum. We pride ourselves on growing our knowledge through experiences inside the classroom though art, gardening, cooking, and sensory integration and outside of the school through trips and experiences in the community. '
We learn valuable life-skills and work daily to communicate effectively with our peers and interact with the amazing world around us so that we can create spaces that encourage us to be our full selves!
My Project
My students are always in motion and always seeking out ways to make rhythm in their day! Sometimes the connections between the brain and motor function can be disrupted by our senses being overwhelmed by the input of sights, sounds, and feelings! With drums, handbells, and other percussion instruments, we can really take our skills to the next level and in a safe and comforting way!
We're hoping to incorporate movement and rhythm into a majority of our school day to promote learning and FUN!
This project will provide opportunities for my students to access items that will promote improved motor planning, dexterity, and coordination. Research also shows that drumming and rhythm development helps students with Autism with motor coordination and increased concentration!
