My Students

"You don't know how to learn until you know how you learn" is a phrase that I have been using since working as an advocate in Special Education while working in the Inner City sections of Los Angeles for over 8 years with huge anti-social influences and anti-social role models. To that end my students now in Utah come from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds, cultures, languages, countries and belief systems. Students have been exposed to aforementioned influences in this wonderful state of Utah as well. Each student is a human being with emotions that are unique and each is hungry to be accepted and each is hungry to feel success. Consistent encouragement, positive self image affirmations and positive verbal praise are only minimal examples of relationship building strategies that I use to help inspire and mold these minds into curious, questioning, knowledge and truth seekers. The fight against all the negativity is real and to encourage these humans to learn how they learn is key before they can learn effectively. Having the proper tools in the tool bag of strategies is also needed for this fight.

My Project

In the classroom there are many projects and subject being addressed at the same time due to classroom size constraints and the variety of subjects. At times, subjects being taught are being brought digitally to the students through a television with built in speakers. The television sound has to be loud enough to be heard by those students participating in the digital instruction but not loud enough to disturb the other students in the classroom not participating. This is a seemingly paradoxical situation that is common in the digital age with older classrooms built for in-person and not for hybrid instruction.

The creative solution is to use the 1/8" auxiliary sound out put from the television to a 1/4" input to the headphone amplifier.

The space between the wall and output from the TV is small so the smaller 1/8" cable is more flexible and can make the turn without stressing the wiring on the inside. The connectors will bring the sound to the headphone amplifier. The sound then can be individualized for each of the participating students while at the same time allowing nonparticipating students a reduction in the potential volume distractions.

This solution should improve the academic access and improve academic functioning immensely while reducing distractions! This is an awesome solution to a persistent situation in classrooms where academic progress and learning how to learn is so important for the future of these young minds!
