My Students

Drills, drills, drills! Math can be a challenge for many students and an interactive white board can spark an interest.

The special education students come from a background where education is not considered a priority.

This makes it difficult to place an emphasis on academics. The students are predominately indigenous and most are on free and reduced lunch. They have the potential to achieve greatness with the right kind of motivation. For many of the students, math is the least favorite subject.

My Project

Having a smart board would help math come to life. I would be able to use imagery to reinforce many complex concepts. I can demonstrate a variety of ways that math could be used in everyday life. This would especially be useful for the kinesthetic leaners: The students participate in tactical learning. It would facilitate their learning therefore increasing their knowledge. My specific special education students have very short attention spans; Any type of learning activities that involve moving and interaction makes for a positive learning experience. As they prepare for graduation, math will become part of their daily lives. An interactive white board will allow them to gain the skills needed so they can accomplish their goals.

An interactive white board would provide enrichment opportunities for the students that may not otherwise be possible.

It would also make it possible for the students make tremendous academic gains by providing a learning experience that makes learning fun.
