My Students
My students have received their education in a large urban school district where there is barely enough money for textbooks. They have had years of doing without challenging materials, and have had to survive with the very basics.
My students are bright, motivated teenagers who are determined to go to college and be successful.
Our school is unique in that it concentrates on preparing the students for higher education in the fields of science and medicine. Our students attend school an extra hour every day and participate in an extended school year to accommodate a rigorous academic schedule.
My Project
My students need sound and wave classroom package equipment to do advanced labs in simple harmonic motion, and storage boxes to protect the equipment. Over the past two years, I have built the Eleventh Grade Physics program from the ground up with the help of donors like you. I started with an empty room and a few rulers I got for free at the local supply store. Now I have the start of a true physics lab where I can challenge my students with inquiry based learning and hands-on activities.
One area where my curriculum is weak is in waves and simple harmonic motion. This is a difficult topic to quantify for the students. The equipment I'm asking for is amazing for labs that let the student not only hear sounds waves, but they can visualize how the waves propagate and measure their properties. These materials would provide many labs that would inspire and engage any students.
My students work hard for everything they have.
This equipment would not only give my students exposure to rigorous labs to prepare them for college, but it would also show them that they are worth the best that science education has to offer. This equipment would be used for years to come and influence the education of thousands of urban students. I could not be the teacher I am today without the generosity of donors like you.
