Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Children deserve to be exposed to so much more culture than they have been in the classroom today. My own son used to come home with cookie cutter art year after year and isn't it time that we indulge these students in some above average culture?
My school is 46% free and reduced lunch with only 20 students away from being classified as a Title I School.
That rate has doubled from what it was ten years ago, with the PTA’s ability to raise money to help beyond the basics also inversely cut in half. Lower socioeconomic status students often display difficulty with language skills and struggle with reading. My school is no different. This growing achievement gap is a stark challenge, and the school’s administration and faculty have been motivated to think outside the box. Our teachers recognize the power that the arts can have when integrated into other traditional academic areas. The arts offer rich opportunities to build vocabulary, increase oral skills, and other critical elements of literacy. Through the arts, students find reading and writing more meaningful and become better able to tell their own stories.
My Project
In our school, the art department creates all the school's scenery. From parades to school plays, we do it all. This airbrush kit will help make our production scenery a hit. I want to teach my students how to use air brushing as a form of art and make realistic scenery, posters, you name it! Air brush art can be very effective on large scale fabrics. I am looking forward to using this form of art and teaching my students. The mix of paint and other forms of art such as air brush is a technique in itself. Please help make this a reality for my deserving students.
