Help me give my students "The Secret Stories" portable phonics posters and reference boards, dry erase boards and markers, and fidget bands and manipulatives.
I am a kindergarten teacher who teaches 22 curious, enthusiastic students. My students represent a variety of cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. My school gets very little funding from the district, and almost everything for our classroom is funded by kind parents, generous donors, and me.
My amazing students love learning!
They enjoy participating in science, math, writing, reading, engineering, and art activities because they have fun and feel successful. When activities are engaging, hands-on, and meaningful, my students get captivated in learning and everybody wins.
My Project
In my classroom, I already use the multisensory Secret Stories to help my students understand many of the phonics rules. This program uses brain-based learning strategies, such as telling stories, to activate the students' brains and explain why the letters make certain sounds when they are together. Since these posters take up a lot of space in my classroom, I want to get the portable phonics posters and Porta-pics reference boards so students can reference them easier without taking up as much room on the wall.
Stimulating my students' brains is critical in making the curriculum engaging and meaningful.
The fidget bands, sensory tools, and manipulatives will help do this as well. Through pulling, squeezing, and twisting these tools, my students will be able to better maintain their focus and attention in a safe, controlled way.
The dry erase boards, erasers, and markers will be perfect tools for my students to keep inside their desks. Since the whiteboards are also clipboards, they will provide my students with hard writing surfaces for when they are in small groups or working around the room. All of these supplies will help my students continue to grow and progress.
