Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The current job market requires students to develop 21st century skills that include creativity and collaboration. It is through theater that students in my classroom learn these skills. Students in my classroom have opportunities to explore who they are and who they want to be, while at the same time creating art. Theatre allows them to develop skills that are useful no matter what careers they choose.
Students at my school have diverse backgrounds.
My school is a Title One school and many of them receive free and reduced lunch. Despite their personal situations I emphasize college and career readiness. 100 percent of students involved in this program for three or more years move on to college and university programs after graduation.
My Project
Theatre is MATH and SCIENCE and sound design incorporates both of those subject areas. I want my students to have access to the technology they will find in community and professional theatre. We recently had updates to our theatre facility and with those updates we received two very good sound systems. This Macbook Air will allow us to utilize those systems at a high level.
We are looking for ways to teach future theatre sound designers and technicians to incorporate the science of sound into elements of our productions.
This will increase their marketability as working designers and technicians as well as give them skills they can apply in other content areas.
