Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These items are for projects I call The Science of SELf Care. We meet with the District Wellness Leader and create projects that help teach students how to care for themselves with natural materials. Oh We do yoga, breathing techniques, meditation and other activities to promote health and wellness.

Taking care of yourself is important and I would like to show students a natural way to care for themselves.

Initially with The Science of SELf Care, we focused on our teeth and taking care of our mouth. I explained why flossing is important, what tongue scraping does, the ayurvedic reasons for oil pulling, the whitening power of baking soda/hydrogen peroxide - plus explanations on what people used prior to the invention of toothpaste by Colgate in 1873. Each student got a new toothbrush along with the experience of oil pulling and comparing and contrasting home made toothpastes. We are running out of supplies for that project and the materials in this project will replenish those needed supplies. Other projects include bracelet making and beading as well as making shirts for the group to wear around school to further promote The Science of SELf Care.

It is an interesting and worthwhile project. I'm excited to complete it with my students. Thank you for your support and belief in health and wellness.
