My students need good drawing paper and a 3D printer with filament to draw models they can then render digitally and bring to life.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students don't have internet access at home, they don't have iPhones, and they have never been told they can be innovative. My students have plenty working against them but are really only lacking inspiration.
Every student loves learning when it is delivered in a hands-on, exciting way.
That's where I come in.
Above all else, I want to inspire my students to see that they can become engineers, programmers, or scientists. Our students are nearly all living in poverty and many are English learners. Rather than lower my expectations, I want to be the one who pushes them, who expects more of them, who not only believes they can succeed, but expects it.
My Project
My students struggle to express themselves, and I believe this contributes to their difficulty in being both abstract and detail oriented. As someone who loves the arts, I want to be able to reach them through a project pairing art and STEM.
Students will draw a model of anything they choose, paying attention to detail, because they will turn their drawings into digitally rendered models to be brought to life with the 3D printer that I requested.
Students learn everything better with connections, with something tying in to real life, something tangible, so with each of them able to draw their creation and see it actually become something they can hold and touch will allow me to teach them techniques of artistic representation and well as digital media.
I want to leave students free to create whatever their imagination can lead them to draw, and allow them the freedom to do their digital rendering as they see fit to create what they have drawn. Every skill they will use is something they can, and will, use as we expand into other art and STEM projects this year.
