My students need magna tiles, markers, and a wide variety of hands-on math manipulatives and STEM materials to help them engage and connect with their learning.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This is my 5th year as a Reading and Math Intervention Teacher. Each year I work with 25-35 students in grades K-5 that are struggling to keep up with the grade level expectations in Reading and/or Math. I try my best to provide them with the tools and skills they need to be successful.
Our school does not have any private funding or a parent teacher organization to provide funds.
We are only able to stock our rooms with supplies and materials using our own money and resources. The students deserve the best, and I want them to have every opportunity to be the best learners and individuals they can be!
My Project
Every day I work with students in grades K-5 who are struggling to meet their grade level expectations in math. Many times I find myself taking difficult and often complex math concepts and breaking them down into concrete learning.
Using Math manipulatives and STEM materials helps my students build a foundation for new learning.
By using plastic coins to count money, moving the hands on a clock to show time passing, and connecting cubes together to create groups, my students can link an abstract mathematical concept with a concrete object. Building these foundational skills early will help all of my students to be successful learners as the mathematical concepts become more complex and abstract.
