Help me give my students new Orff instruments and mallets to replace aging and damaged ones! These instruments aren't only replacing some that are past their prime, but they are perfect for storing in our small sized classroom.
I teach the most wonderful children possible. They enjoy coming to school and are often times sad when they have to leave us. Although 60 percent of our students are economically disadvantaged, the children are always eager to learn. They are absolutely amazing and bring a smile to school every day. I believe that music really helps our students find joy throughout their day, and it helps them feel success on days where they might have struggled academically. Music gives our students something else to look forward to. I feel that it is my duty as a teacher to help them receive the best musical experience possible, one they truly deserve.
My Project
I believe our students deserve the best education possible, and music is a huge part of that. I am a huge advocate of cross curricular education in my music classroom, along with STEM learning and now the important component of including the Arts- STEAM. Music is such an essential tool that can be used to help students make connections across the disciplines. The instruments being requested will help me make these connections to the students through play.
Our school was opened in 1992, and has not had any major music purchases for instruments since then.
The items being requested are all things that just need replacing. Our kids are truly the best, and I feel that they should have the best, and not aged and damaged equipment. I wish you could all see the faces the kids make when they finally get to play xylophones. They recognize them as true professional instruments that they see being played in the orchestra. We can't store big xylophones, but the ones being requested are perfect for our elementary classroom. Not to mention, the ones we have now are over 26 years old and being held together with glue, bands, and creative thinking. Our Sand-blocks and mallets are also falling apart, they too have probably not been replaced since the opening of the school.
Regardless of the aging instruments, our kids enjoy coming to music, and do the best with what they have. I just want to give them an even better experience by providing them with high quality instruments, ones that they truly deserve.
