I teach a diverse group of first-grade students. My students are from all parts of the world, Africa, Mongolia, China, and even California and Kansas. My students’ learning styles and needs are just as diverse.
My class consists of 22 wonderful first-grade students!
My students are engaged, hardworking, and passionate about learning! As their teacher, my job is to provide them with various ways of learning so they can become the best version of themselves and we can make the most of our year together.
My Project
I first heard about Ron Clark after reading his book "The Essential 55" in my Teacher Intern class as a high school senior. Daily, my class would read an entry in his book and discuss how we could use his "essentials" in our classrooms one day.
One quote Ron Clark said that stuck with me was, “I want the kids to enjoy reading not only today but for the rest of their lives.
I try to do all I can to show them the power of their imaginations and to teach them that images on a movie screen pale by comparison with the pictures we can paint with our minds.”
Fast forward 15 years, and I had the opportunity to hear Ron Clark speak in Virginia prior to coming back to teaching after a hiatus as a stay-at-home mom. His passion ignited the 17-year-old in me that was introduced to what becoming a teacher would mean. After a year back in the classroom, I am reminded of how I am a teacher to not only to educate my students but to instill the same passion in their own academic success.
I am requesting funds to pay for registration for a 2-day conference this fall at Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. While at the conference, I will be able to observe classes, attend workshops, and experience school culture, rigor, and student engagement. I will learn how to promote academic rigor while meeting the needs of all learners, and how to create a climate and culture that promotes student success in my own first-grade classroom.
Thank you for your support so I can experience this adventure and share it with my students!
