This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have students who love to read. Yet, I need reading materials that are grade level appropriate for my boys. A couple of them have low reading scores. I am working diligently working to boost their interest and give them a chance to enjoy reading. I am trying to build their stamina in reading. Every child should have many opportunities to read as much as they can.
Children who read many different genres have a wider choice as well as more curiosity about the world around them.
These third graders deserve every opportunity to widen their vocabulary. I want my students to be carried away with the books they read.
My Project
This project will put more books into students hands. It will offer more opportunities for reading along with increasing literacy scores and comprehension. With Common Core the object is rigor in reading. Students must be able to close read, answer major comprehension questions and dive into main idea, compare and contrast ideas as well as author's purpose. My students are charged with summarizing, using context clues and making inferences.
I want my students by the end of the school year to leave me having a love for reading and enjoy a good book!
Taken from Benjamin Franklin : " Tell me and I'll forget. Teach me and I'll remember. Involve me, and I learn."
