A sparkling classroom full of engaged and engaging young readers. Our classroom is an exciting literacy adventure, however finding enough books to satisfy such voracious reading is a challenge. We are constantly in need of additional reading materials to keep our classroom sparkling with literacy.
The majority of my students are from families for whom English is not their primary language.
Despite many economic challenges and social challenges, our students thrive in rigorous academic environments which strive to create accessibility to instruction. My classroom is comprised of a range of reading abilities which reflect individual student strengths as well as levels of support available to them at home. It is crucial all students are given the opportunity to develop literacy at their individual pace to ensure that their love of learning lasts a lifetime.
My Project
If there is one gift I could give to all my students, it would be the ability to find individual meaning and motivation in creating a literate life. I want my students to feel so inspired by learning that they seek to go beyond all of the opportunities to develop literacy at school and bring this inspiration to their home lives and to the people around them. In the same way we watch in amazement the ripples that extend from a pebble dropped in a pond, I hope to create ripples of literacy between my students and others. The leveled reading sets and listening centers requested in this project will help to create an environment of joyful literacy where students are immersed in reading at their individual level and are also able to listen to quality literature at a listening center with classmates.
It is my hope that I may have a lasting impact in the lives of children who will one day be the adults of our world.
I ardently believe the single most important gift I can give children is the gift of literacy. My dream is to create an environment where students realize their potential and develop into agents for the advancement of literacy in others.
