These 5th graders come from a small town where sports are life. I work to expose them to the concept of opening their minds to new ideas, wanting them to learn about new ideas and deciding on their own what new ideas they can discover.
They are in the middle of a new movement and are the product of much confusion.
My goal is to provide them with concrete examples to help them really understand the world around them. I'd like to give them solid ideas, so that they can feel safe to explore their own.
My Project
My students need flexibility in their work spaces that is safe to use. 5th graders get pretty big as the year progresses, so having options on how we manage our learning spaces is golden. They like the opportunity to work in pairs and small groups, and these tables will give them the choices they need.
Our schools still have standard, outdated classroom furniture.
I've tried cheaper versions, but daily use is pretty hard on "normal" furniture.
Knowing that my students can work where they need, and that things won't fall apart will make our learning place much more productive and safe.
