I will be starting my sixth year teaching in a self contained classroom for students with moderate to severe disabilities. My previous teaching experience is within middle and high school grades and I am excited for a new adventure!
I spent the last year in a private clinic for applied behavior analysis working with students 1:1 to develop language skills and decrease behaviors.
Being away from the classroom helped me to realize my passion for the classroom and my students.
When I left teaching in 2018 I gave away a lot of my materials to student teachers and other teachers. I would like to "revamp" my materials to make my classroom welcoming and well stocked for my 10 new learners.
My Project
This will be my first year as an elementary school special education teacher. The 10 students within my classroom have varying abilities and require intensive 1:1 intervention. My school has students from 41 countries with 52% receiving free and reduced lunch.
Students within my classroom have significant learning and behavior needs.
In order to provide the necessary support, I have to modify and create materials on my own. This can be time consuming and expensive to implement.
I want to start the year off right with appropriate materials so that my students have the best opportunity to succeed within the education setting.
