Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is designated for medically fragile preschool students with special needs. My students are nonverbal, or minimally verbal, and need support for mobility, safety, and basic self care. My students make me smile every day! They are fighters who work hard for things that we take for granted!
These are students who lack the self regulation and the core muscle development to remain seated in a typical preschool chair.
These students rely on us to help them feel calm, safe and ready to learn. During therapies and classroom activities my students need adaptive seating built for their size and as well as their developmental level. Once they are in an appropriate seat, they are ready to work on communication, fine motor, gross motor, and play skills.
My Project
My students need lots of support, but they love to sing, play, and learn. Having the right seat will take their minds off movement and help them engage in daily activities to foster early childhood development. These great cube chairs are easy to move and adjust to three different sizes. this allows us to adapt one chair for our growing students, and meet their diverse motor abilities as well as their cognitive development. In addition we are able to bring this seating outside as we adapt to Covid friendly instructional practices.
