Mr. IJpenberg from Richmond VA is requesting reading nooks, desks & storage through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a display teaching cart so that we can enhance learning through group time modeling and interactive participation such as whole group writing projects.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach at a Title 1 School in a downtown urban area. 99% of my students are free/reduced lunch kids. They live below or slightly above the poverty line. Many students come from at risk situations and see school as their safe place. They are eager to learn and to do well but lack many of the resources necessary to help make this possible.
My students are special because they come to school everyday wanting to do well and to learn something new.
Their parents are limited in their resources to help their children but they do everything in their ability to help them succeed and to have a better life. My students may have many outside issues facing them but school is their safe place and I want to do everything I can to help them be successful and to feel joy in their learning.
This white board will be instrumental in my students learning because we can use it during our whole group or small group learning time. I would like to use it during our reading group time as well so that we can model learning skills such as retelling, sharing writing, etc. It will also be a vital storage option since our classroom storage is limited. The storage boxes will contain magnetic letters/markers/sentence strips/reading books/chart paper/ for our group/small group learning.
The mobility of the whiteboard will give me the ability to have multiple teaching points around my classroom (ie.
the Reading center, the Reading table, the Science center, etc).
Our school is in an urban area and is limited on it's resources. This whiteboard cart will allow me to set up multiple teaching areas around the classroom so that I can use it for whole group instruction in our group area or move it to the reading table to do small group instruction. In a Title 1 School, this is vital since many students do better in small group or 1 on 1.
