Ms. Davis from Albany GA is requesting lab equipment through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need transilluminators that allow them to recreate real world experiences and analyze DNA fingerprints of crime scenes and cases of paternity.

My students don't let their circumstances determine their destiny and it's so great to see their perseverance. They students are so AWESOME. I work in a school in which the majority of students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds. They are respectful, loving, but sometimes misunderstood. It takes the right educators to connect with them to open up. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences they will remember the rest of their lives. Just like other kids from privileged upbringings, my students like positive attention and like to know that someone cares about them. As educators we wear many hats. Sometimes we play the role of mom, counselor, judge, nurse, and so on. We take care of them as if they were our own.
We currently have gel electrophoresis machines to track DNA fingerprints but we don't have the UV transilluminators to analyze the results. My kids ask me all the time why we can't do a lot of hands of labs like in science classes they see on television. Unfortunately, the reality is that we don't have the resources to do some of the things our state standards asks of us. So, we are limited to pencil/paper labs. Science is about DOING. We learn by doing. I want to give them that exposure so they can the stamina to measure up to other students in their cohort across the state. We try to cater to different learning style but not having the resources to do so leaves out the kinesthetic learners. Shouldn't we accommodate them too?
