The Real Deal Israel

My students need 11 children's books about the culture and climate of Israel.

Every year at our school, each grade is assigned a continent to learn about. In previous years we have studied mountain cultures, urban cultures, island cultures, and ancient cultures. This year our school is studying how climate impacts culture. The first graders are assigned the continent of Asia. At the end of the school's studies of ancient cultures, we have a school wide "Walkabout Night". The entire school is transformed, and as we travel to each grade with our families and friends that evening, we will learn how climate has impacted the different cultures on each continent. The students and families have the opportunity to learn not just about the continent their grade studied, but about all the continents studied throughout the school via artwork, writing, decoration, costumes, food, presentations, etc. A primary focus of the first grade's studies this year will be on the climate and culture of Israel. We are requesting a variety of books such as "Kid's Catalog of Israel" by Chaya M. Burstein, "Let's Visit Israel" by Judye Groner, and "Colors of Israel" by Laurie M. Grossman. We hope to receive books about the people, the land,and the climate's impact upon the cultures and customs of Israel. These books will inspire and excite the students on their journey of learning about Israel. 100+ first graders will benefit from these books by participating in a variety of center activities and literacy activities. In addition to this year's students learning from these books, future first graders at our school will have the opportunity to use these books. We are committed to opening the door to other cultures and helping the children understand and appreciate people from other countries. By supporting this project, you are also a part of that commitment.
