My students need the iPad mini 2 in order to enhance reading and writing skills.

Who says reading has to be boring and monotonous? Not the First through Fifth graders I serve! As a Reading Interventionist, my goal is to provide each student with a positive and successful reading and writing experience.
Our Title I school of over 500 houses a diverse population of students who come from various backgrounds.
Many of my students are English Language Learners. Most of them receive free or reduced lunch. All of them are reading well below grade level. However, these facts do not deter their thirst for knowledge.
Together, we work hard to break down barriers that may inhibit reading success and we work even harder to build that "can-do" spirit. My students enter the classroom willing and ready to learn!
Our school is very fortunate to have books a plenty, on every topic and level imaginable! However, I see a need for my students to experience reading and writing in ways that are most prevalent for today's young learner.
For the past five years, I have been attending a technology conference and have witnessed the availability of student-friendly technology to enhance the various learning styles of students who may need extra reading and writing support.
After attending the conference this past summer, a teacher presented the many ways students can improve their reading, writing and listening skills via apps that can be installed on the Apple iPad mini.
Because many of my students consider reading to be such a challenge, this advanced use of technology will offer them a new and exciting alternative to explore their world. The students would use the iPad to independently monitor their reading, following a shared and guided fluency lesson.
In writing, there are many apps that allow the students to compose, transcribe, and share their writings with the teacher, each other and beyond. This form of collaboration will most likely lead to independent thinkers and life-long learners. The possibilities are endless! I do believe having the Apple iPad mini will help motivate my students to become the most effective readers and writers possible!
