"I will not waste this day. I will try my best in every way. I am the best me I can be!" Thus begins each day for the students in our class. My students are a unique group with a hungry desire to learn. Out of 56 students, 14 speak a language other than English at home. Many of them serve as the translator for their parents. A large number come from single parent households and are receiving free and reduced-price lunch.
Despite their varied backgrounds and ability levels, my students come to school each day looking for a safe place to be themselves and expand their knowledge beyond their wildest dreams.
By providing them with technology and educational experiences they wouldn't otherwise have, my students are able to build their self confidence and believe that they ARE capable. I may not be able to change their home life or family history, but I can give them an opportunity to recognize the impact they will have on our future. Together, we inspire each other to be the "best me" we can be.
My Project
My students are in need of a cozy, fire retardant rug in order to make our morning meeting and whole group learning time more comfortable and meaningful.
Our class's most important lessons are learned when we are gathered together in a safe space, free to share our thoughts without a fear of being wrong or being judged.
I would love to be able to continue to provide this space for students in a more welcoming way by bringing a rug into my classroom. Students will use this rug for our daily morning meeting, whole group and small group lessons, in addition to a place for students to read and work on their station activities.
Per our fire marshal, any fabric brought into the classroom must be flame retardant. I appreciate your donation that will help me provide this safe, snug environment for our brightest minds.
