Help my Reading Apprentices to further their advancement in reading comprehension with books that they love and that push them to excellence in reading comprehension!
My 5th grade students are avid readers!
They recently received "Master Classroom" certification in AR and continue to be eager in their reading. I recently had one of my students approach me and say, "I don't have anything to read. I've ready everything on my level that you have." I want my higher level reading students to have the same selection options in my classroom that my struggling readers have, because I want to continue to provide the spark that lights their reading fires!
My Project
So many times we as teachers concentrate so much, and rightfully so, on the struggling readers that sometimes our higher level readers get left out in the cold. Our school library and my personal classroom library caters greatly to the struggling readers that come into my classroom, and I want to afford that same privilege to my higher readers as well. I want all readers in my class to get the opportunity to advance their reading comprehension, and these books will not only peak their interest in wanting to read, but will also help them advance their reading skills and comprehension! Not to mention that some of my classroom readers help me pick out the books wanted on this list!
We live in a high poverty area in a very rural part of the South.
We are a Title 1 school, so many of my students have limited abilities for their families to provide adequate books to further enhance their reading comprehension, so anything I can do to supplement their love for reading and increase their knowledge and comprehension would be such a valuable resource to have available for them.
