I teach 20 kindergarten scholars in a Title I school, in the Bronx. My goal is to make sure my students have a plethora of books, art materials, pencils and crayons to continue our work. We are now working on blending CVC words, rhyming, counting to 20, and learning about our community. We go through a lot of crayons and the always-disappearing pencils! Many of the students are food insecure, some living in temporary housing. This is why I have requested snacks to help them power through the day. With Black History month quickly approaching, I have included age-appropriate texts that will introduce my students to incredible black heroes. It is very important for me to create an environment that includes books that have characters and figures that look like my students.
