My students are especially curious and motivated when it comes to music. They enjoy playing different styles and learning about composers and performers. One of the greatest ways to expose them to fresh and challenging music, that also has a great story, is to play jazz - the quintessential American art.
The band students at our school are eager to form a jazz ensemble that meets before school - we just need the right materials to get us off the ground.
My Project
My students are eager to form a jazz ensemble that meets before school. They have already been exposed to the jazz idiom through listening and lecture, but the only way to REALLY learn about jazz is to play it. For that, we need your help.
I'm requesting Essential Elements for Jazz method book for a variety of instruments including Saxophone, Clarinet, Piano, Guitar, Drums, Flute, Trombone, and Conductor.
These method books will allow our small group of young but committed musicians to unlock the secrets of the jazz style. They will begin to look at their instruments in a new way, and a world of possibilities will open up to them.
Jazz is all about trying new things, taking risks, and being unapologetically creative. It's time that my students get that opportunity, and feel supported in their endeavors to carry on the jazz legacy.
