Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
According to Benjamin Franklin, "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I may remember. Involve me and I learn." In September, the benchmark indicated that 98% of my students need a great deal of help. There are 94 students in my cluster. The benchmark indicated that 74/94 (79%) of my students scored "urgent intervention" or "intervention" and 18/94 (19%) are "on watch". Many of my students have gaps in their math education. The majority of our students (74%) are free or reduced lunch. Technology and resources will help many of my students who don't have access at home. In addition, I have several students who volunteered to be responsible for this project resources. We are a Title I school district.
I have several students who are volunteering to make a student lead project to receive a smart television. I have seven volunteers who will be responsible for the television: Nathalie, Brandon, Alan, Kay, Emily, Jeffrey, Christopher. My students will try to utilize the smart television as a monitor to view the results from an IPad, cell phone or computers. Therefore, their data collection and analysis will allow each class to share and view their results. Students from the five classes will be able to have a discourse and interpret their results with immeasurable knowledge. The students can create graphs from the data and display engaging common core concepts. Therefore, the students can use the smart television during all our classes to have a greater comprehension and appreciation for their math education.
In Their Own Words
The world today is all about developing new technology. The technology we are requesting will bring us closer together as a cluster in helping one another to work together in solving challenging math concepts. The point of technology is to make things easier and more effective. That's what would happen if we were awarded the funds. What we are requesting would go to buying a TV and some accessories so we can view work on the television monitor, we can share data collection, projects and we can have math competitions too. Also, as I mentioned earlier, it would be easier and more effective because we wouldn’t have to keep wiping off the whiteboard.
In this rare opportunity to give us a fighting chance to grow academically and to allow us to be leaders for our cluster. We will be more engaged with the technology rather than just writing on a whiteboard, something we’ve been exposed to our whole lives. Students would take the initiative to be engaged because it would be more entertaining to our classes as well as to me, a student myself. To conclude, technology is future as we are likewise. If we get the money funded by us, it will expose far more students to this type of technology and how we can use it to help us assimilate information so we can make a better future. With the Television monitor and Apple TV we can use a tablet or a computer to display our work and research. We will have a much better understanding of math concepts.
We will connect our ideas by viewing each individual data collection, and projects. This technology will allow us to learn a lot faster and understand much better the math concepts. There are seven of us who have volunteered and are very interested in being responsible for the television and the Apple Tv. We will take this task very seriously to ensure the advancement of our education. We will not need an erasable board, pencil, or paper to view others work if we get the TV monitor. The technology will give us an opportunity to get the best education and join the 21 century.
