My students need more computers in class. I'm slowly moving towards 1:1 and these Chromebooks will help. I also need more creative seating, which is why I'm asking for wobble stools and a bean bag chair.
I teach in a middle income area outside Portland, OR with a bunch of fantastic students. We have been transitioning from the more traditional sit and get style learning to something more kid friendly and creative. The kids are active and engaged and love getting their hands both on technology and on chunks of cardboard. Anything that lets them build.
I have a huge class, so even the supplies my school is able to give aren't enough.
Our parents want to donate but I can't ask them to do that. My principal is welcoming and encouraging and has supported our efforts to get a little crazy and weird with our classroom.
My Project
I am a teacher who tries to bring as much technology into my classroom as possible. To this end I am asking for three more Chromebooks. This will not bring me to 1:1, but it gets me closer. I'm not asking for as many as I would need to get there because my students also need more creative seating options.
More computers mean less sharing keyboard time, and a wider variety of seating options means more active students.
Getting kids out of plastic chairs and regular desks activates their brains. Getting them keyboard time prepares them for the future and grants me access to a wider variety of instructional techniques. To these ends I'm raising money for Hokki and Kore wobble stools, a bean bag chair, and three Chromebooks.
