Students today feel they can't make a difference in the real world because they are only kids. I want to show them they can help and they can show our community the difference they are making. Our community is in need of building the quail population up and my students can help.
We are in a rural, military community.
Many of my students come from military homes. This means we have a high turn over of students. The challenge with this is the students have various learning levels. We have good parent and community involvement in our Title I school. Our school is located in a growing community and each year we see expansion in the neighborhoods and school.
My Project
My students will hatch quail in the classroom and write about the learning. I will use my writing publishing activities to teach my students how to write an expository writing about the dangers of diminishing quail. The students will exhibit first hand through hatching quail, how to help restore quail. I will use the writing centers to teach my students how to write an informative piece explaining this process. When the quail are grown, we will release the quail into their natural environment. I will use the letter writing materials to teach my students how to write a letter informing the local newspaper about what our class has done to help restore the quail in our community.
You can be a part of this exciting project!
By helping us get quail eggs and writing materials for our classroom, you can ensure we will begin restoring the quail population and informing the public of our change. Awareness of the diminishing population can prevent this problem in the future. With your help, we can save the quail and teach others. Please help!
