Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science," Edwin Powell Hubble said, but it is often difficult for my students to visualize the complex ideas of science because we lack the technology we need in order to do so!
My students have been through more obstacles than some of us have ever been in a life time.
We are in a high poverty district, so most of my students have never even left the city in which they live in. They do not have the opportunity to experience what children in higher income districts experience on a daily basis. Though my students are at a disadvantage, they still come in every day eager to learn. Through the use of technology, my students could see what is beyond their neighborhoods and continue on a better path of fulfilling their dreams.
My Project
Technology can open many doors for my students that would otherwise remain shut due to their circumstances. The subject of science has many complex ideas, so having access to a projector and a projector cart in our classroom everyday would greatly benefit my students. A projector could change the way our lesson and labs are conducted for the better. Students would be able to participate in interactive programs and tutorials, watch short video clips to broaden their background knowledge, and keep them up-to-date with science news. My students would also be able to use the projector to present their findings from our lab investigations. Using technology to make presentations will help prepare my students for real world jobs. Since my students are extremely disadvantaged due to their economic status, I want to give them a fighting chance to compete for the jobs that could change their economic status for the better.
There are endless possibilities in the ever-changing world of science, so I want my students to be excited to learn when they enter my classroom!
Very few classrooms at my school are able to provide the technology needed to create 21st century learners and thinkers. I would love for my classroom to be the spot where students can experience new and exciting fundamentals of science. Being able to spark their interest will keep my students engaged and will lead to success in the classroom!
