Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in a Spanish Dual Immersion program at a Title One school. Half of my students are non-Spanish speaking and the other half speak Spanish.
We are located in southern California.
The students in my class are from all races and socio-economic backgrounds. Because we are a Title One school, we receive special services, such as free lunch and free before and after school care. Many of the students come from working families where both parents work full time.
My Project
In kindergarten, writing is more than putting letters on paper. Writing can be very abstract, especially in kindergarten. The process of writing includes many aspects such as letter names/sounds, conventions, pair sharing our thoughts and making bubble maps to portray our thoughts on a certain topic.
The supplies listed such as magnetic letters, magnetic whiteboards, pencil grips and flexible seating (cushions) will help my students with the beginning stages of the writing process.
We will use the supplies to help us further understand the process of writing by sharing our ideas with our classmates and create a comfortable positive environment where learning to write is exciting and fun.
