I need Professional Development from 11:11 Wellness for training on teacher self-care.

My classroom is filled with the most vivacious 4 and 5-year-old children you will ever meet in your life. They are filled with love and a joy for learning that is simply contagious. Our school is located in Southeast Washington DC in a highly impoverished area. Unfortunately, many of our students come from very difficult home lives where they are constantly dealing with the consequences of being exposed to high levels of poverty, trauma, and violence. Despite all of this, they love school and are eager to learn every day. My hope is to make school a safe and joyful place where they can thrive and grow each and every day.
As a teacher working in a school with an almost exclusive population with students of color, I have seen the great impact my race and self-care plays into the teacher that I show up as each day. The Privilege Project training will allow me to unpack my bias as a white educator, and learn tools and strategies for taking care of myself. When I am able to care for myself, I will be better able to not act as my bias would have me view student behavior. This training will give me the tools to address students who have faced extreme levels of trauma with mindfulness and lean towards love instead of discipline.
My students deserve access to a teacher who is able to tap into her joy, in service of creating an equitable classroom where students feel safe and loved.
This professional development will allow me to better understand how I can unravel my privilege to sow justice in a community of scholars who deserve access to the highest quality educators. Since this training is from an educator who has vast experiences working in schools such as mine, I will bring back the knowledge of how to regulate my nervous system in high-stress situations that my students are often experiencing. Learning how to calm my own body and mind when I feel overwhelmed will help both me and my students create a classroom that is full of joy and love, rather than one of discipline and control.
