My students are in 6th-8th grade at a small school. Their education is constantly threatened by political turmoil and budget cuts. I am always trying to find ways to provide world-class resources to the group of students that I see. Our school serves a diverse population, and I teach classes to many students who are English learners and also students with learning disabilities. Each student I see is unique, curious, and eager to succeed despite challenges. A donation to our classroom provides access to essential resources that I could not provide on my own. Thank you!
Todays students need to be technologically savvy and equipped with soft skills for the future. A whiteboard will allow us to collaborate in an engaging way with text, media, and art as we study throughout the year. Students will be able to compare and contrast stories in traditional text with media portrayals of those stories. They will be able to demonstrate knowledge through interactive projects such as Animoto, forcing them to think how mood and tone impacts the message they are trying to convey. Lastly, students will utilize the board for interactive review games such as Kahoot! that foster friendly competition and study skills.
In Their Own Words
Student interview: The goal is to get a projector for the classroom. This kind of projector will let us have a regular whiteboard when we want to and an interactive board when we turn it off. We won't have to have the old projector cart in the way or share with any other teachers.
Student interview: Most of my class hates studying at home. If we have a whiteboard like this, I can quiz others on Brainpop or Kahoot! while Ms. Dippel is teaching at the back table. We will also be able to sit together in our regular seats. Right now we have to move because the old projector gets too hot on the table and sometimes doesn't work.
Student interview: Nobody else has an interactive whiteboard and we would be the first ones! I like how we can move things around on the board to learn. We can do this at the back table but it would be cooler to do on a screen. I like to learn with pictures and highlighting together instead of just reading at my seat. Right now we can't do that.
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
As a teacher-founded nonprofit, we're trusted by thousands of teachers and supporters across the country. This classroom request for funding was created by Ms. Dippel and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
