This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in the building are exemplary, from pre-k to 5th grade. Without our students we wouldn't be the teachers, counselors and para's that we are. When our students move on to different schools or middle schools; we always receive the highest compliments regarding our students' mannerism and behavior. The school community is warm and loving. The students are always willing to help one another out and are go-getters; constantly reaching for success and going above and beyond in their learning. My favorite thing about our students is the sense of family among one another; their excitement to connect in a positive manner even outside of school.

If "be the change you wish to see in the world" were a person; it would easily be our students.

My Project

With this project, I am looking to conduct a study on the effects that yoga and sound therapy have on learning and anxiety. These tools will be used during an after-school program beginning in March that will run for 8 weeks. Students will be given a survey with questions geared towards their perspective on test taking, navigating through a pandemic, and reintegrating back into school. For the 5th grade students questions will be geared towards anxiety around transitions and middle school. During the pandemic, there has been an increase in mental health diagnosis that include but are not limited to: Depression, Anxiety and Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I would love to use these materials to aide in supporting previous studies that yoga has been proven to be the most effective form of release for anxiety, trauma and depression. I would also have upper grade students assist in facilitating the following segment, which would take place in the summer. This will allow and equip them with leadership skills.
