I am an elementary school art teacher for Kindergarten through grade 5, in an urban setting where no district funding is available beyond the essentials. I am a second year teacher and do not yet have a large library of images to share with my students. It's a much more ideal situation to show them all the material that is available on the Internet - which would be made possible with the use of a new donated projector.
As I teach my students the elements and principles of design, I show them examples of art from many different cultures and periods of history. With large class sizes, and limited time and resources, I am not able to do this consistently. Holding up books with small images does not allow for all students to see the many and varied relevant images. Some examples of how I will use the projector are: when I teach prehistoric art to first and second graders - they can go on a virtual tour of the Cave at Lascaux, or look at images of Rock Art of the Central African Republic as I project websites onto my wall. I can provide better learning opportunities when I am able to share art related information efficiently.
The material available on the Internet is limitless. There are so many interactive art websites for teaching concepts like perspective. Projected images will allow students to simultaneously see the art images. Not only will the students be afforded more exposure, but we all will be “on the same page” for discussing and analyzing what we are viewing and studying. There is an abundance of material available on the world wide web that will allow these students to be informed young artists if we have the means to access this information, and project it with a projector. Students are taken by technology. The images will be powerful, and the students will be further engaged as we live in an age where technology appears to be a motivator for students.
Please help me connect my students to the art of the world past and present through the gift of a projector.
Please help me connect my precious young artists to the art of the world, past and present. This will allow them the exposure that will help them to access their talent. With this efficient method of sharing examples of art, students will consequently have more time to create their own art.
