Help me give my students outdoor recess equipment such as hoola-hoops and basketballs to help the students in our school have fun activities to keep their bodies moving.
The students in my school are inquisitive and eager learners who are ready to take on the world. They are excited to learn new concepts and skills. They have a great desire to learn, but they also come with different needs, backgrounds and experiences that make learning different for all of them. Research shows there is a direct correlation between academics and time spent in free-play. My goal is to increase time on task in the classroom by promoting positive free-play during recess.
My Project
With the increase of academic accountability, the importance of recess has started to gradually diminish. However, the power of play in a child's day is critical when it comes to their overall development. According to research by Jade D'Agostino and Kayla Illingworth, "Play is essential to the development of children because it contributes to their cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being."
"Academic achievement and attentiveness are improved when children have the opportunity to participate in free-play at recess," according to D'Agostino and Illingworth.
If we want to see success in the classroom, we need to give students the opportunity to socially interact with others in an unrestricted environment. Recess promotes health, fitness, and physical activity, which is important due to the increase in screen-time among young children.
These materials will be used to support all students during recess, and give them a variety of activities to use while playing with others or independently.
