Help me give my students open-ended toys to inspire their creativity and problem-solving. Items like wooden blocks and a dollhouse will provide hours of imaginative play time for my students.
I have the ultimate pleasure of working with smart, enthusiastic and hardworking kindergarteners in a Title I school in NYC. Our school services a beautifully diverse group of children, who come to school ready to try new things in order to grow both personally and academically. I am so proud of our loving class, which is part of the ASD Nest program, an integrated approach to teaching both students on the autism spectrum and neurotypical learners.
As an ASD Nest Program school, we believe that what's good for our students on the autism spectrum, is good for the whole class.
My current class of students are super curious. Any time we introduce a new topic, they seem to sit at the edge of the seats to learn more and more! In addition to their thirst for new ideas, they care openly and honestly about each other. I have no doubt that our group of young and insightful students will achieve wonderful things this year.
My Project
Play is important for both social and academic growth. These items listed will provide endless creative play time for my kindergarten students. This time will give authentic experiences of problem-solving, leadership, and perseverance.
As Fred Rogers said, "Play is really the work of childhood." Every child deserves a chance to learn and grow.
These items will provide that for all of my students, no matter what their background might be. My students who struggle socially will be provided with a time to find something they have in common with other students. Students who are new to the country will learn English and gain friends through the act of play.
